  • Traditional Aftercare
During the healing process, touching your tattoo without clean hands leaves you vulnerable for infections and other skin conditions that may impede your tattoo from healing properly. Once your tattoo is complete, a bandage is applied to protect it from infection. Leave your bandage on between 45 minutes to an hour. Remove your bandage, wash the tattoo and surrounding area with warm water and an antibacterial soap, and pat dry with a clean towel (or paper towel) without scrubbing. Wash your tattoo and the surrounding area 2-3 times a day for the duration of the healing process (two to three week period, allow your tattoo to dry for 2-3 minutes and gently apply a thin coat of a water-based moisturizing lotion. Allowing your tattoo to dry is not a bad thing, however doing so excessively will prolong the healing process and make your tattoo prone to scabbing. Unless instructed otherwise by your artist, there is no need to re-bandage your fresh tattoo. Exposing your tattoo to chlorine pools, hot tubs, lake or ocean water, direct sunlight, tanning bed lights or other harsh conditions may put you at risk for skin infections and adverse healing results. Your tattoo will heal completely between 3-4 weeks. You can expect to peel as you would from a sunburn and see pigment (tattoo ink) in the skin flakes. The tattoo may have a shiny and "faded" appearance until fully healed.
